Love Magick

Introduction
    Love, the very essence and seat of the heart within every soul on Earth and beyond. Its very presence can drive one from the plateau of sanity beyond the brink of madness and back. It is the emotional mind set that is among the most difficult to understand because it lies beyond logic and reason and yet everyone tries to experience it. Thousands of us all over the world dream nothing but the sweet dreams of love, even though we have none of our own. Unfortunately, many of us also have it when we don't deserve it and even abuse it. This power has caused great harmony as well as suffering, pain, and even death.
    To the novice Craft user, this sort of emotional tampering could be considered among the most taboo, especially without proper knowledge on how love magick actually works. Unfortunately, there are even many well-experienced Craft users who know nothing at all about love magick because of its taboo nature. Thanks to Hollywood and the media, the practice of love magick has been tainted with many misconceptions just like most other aspects of the Craft. With great study and a clear understanding, one can come to grasp this power with perfect love and perfect trust without the fear of pain and suffering that the experienced magician should not have while working magick anyway.
    Let's be perfectly honest with ourselves about the concept of love. Though it is the single most pleasant and intoxicating emotional state, it is all too rarely eternal or pure. Love, even in the most passionate relationships, typically carries some trace of doubt, fear, or other negative emotional burdens. Man simply has not learned to purify his own heart of doubt, fear, or even greed; all of which work against the root essense of love.

Harmony
    I am going to use a spiritually appropriate analogy to explain the effects of love magick on a relationship. As you may know, the driving forces of magick are desire and emotion. Emotion is energy and love is one of the most powerful emotions. When two people fall sincerely in love with each other, they each work to express their love for each other. By expressing their love, they naturally send loving energy toward the other. When the two lovers each send their loving energy toward the other, it forms a rotating cycle of loving energy connects the two lovers and becomes a strong energetic harmony between them. So long as this harmony remains pure and unhindered for the most part, the result is romance and love. Some of you more experienced magicians may have noticed the overwhelming wave of loving energy when in the presence of two sincere lovers. When it is focused toward you, it is a powerful force that can cause you to ignore even the loudest logic and reason and do anything to bask in this loving energy for as long as possible. It is also a contagious feeling that makes you feel good and want to spread this great feeling to everyone you meet.
    Unfortunately, with emotions as they are, this harmony is not all that hard to break. Simpler emotions such as fear, doubt, suspicion, loneliness, and especially anger can destroy the harmony and cause romance to go awry and eventually cause the relationship to end. This is not to say that such negative emotions are never justified, but they can cause even the deepest love to fade. Love is a great and powerful emotion when it is pure, but we give it too much credit because pure, harmonized love is quite rare. The harmony between any two lovers almost always harbors some type of fear or doubt somewhere.

The Purpose of Love Magick
    With such a power and potentially dangerous force as love, why tamper with it? Simply because within love is a seed of greater love. Love is such a powerful force that it effects those around you and inspires them to spread the love to others. Therefore, I believe it is a shame that most magicians are too afraid to nurture this seed because television told them that tampering with love is dangerous or wrong.
    The purpose of love magick is to draw your loving energy and plunge it with great force through any fear or doubt that stands in its way. This purifies the loving harmony of two potential or existing lovers and allows their existing harmony to flow as it should. If a relationship is plagued by misplaced or unjustified fear or doubt, a love spell would purify the harmony of these blockages.
    If you're trying to gain the favor of a certain love interest, but he/she is unsure whether or not you are suitable, you can eliminate this doubt with a love spell and win your chance to convince your love interest that you are the right choice. If your love interest has a measure of doubt in the success of a relationship with you, then you know for sure that you are being considered and this creates a measure of harmony that can be purified with love magick and get you that date you have tried so hard to get. With this all in mind, you begin to understand that love magick only works in cases where the harmony is already present, even if it has not yet developed into actual love. You can cast love spells on anyone you like, but they will only work on those who you already share a bond of some kind with. Someone who does not care for you will kick this energy back and nothing will happen. No karmic price will be paid by anyone.
    You can actually feel the change in harmony after such spells are done, especially if you are one of the lovers for which the spell was cast. Being on the receiving end of a love spell is an overwhelming and indescribable feeling if the caster harbored great love within his/her heart. It is similar to what you feel in your heart when you hear your lover speak with a soft, sincere "I love you," but multiplied by ten fold. There is no greater way to say, "I love you" than to let your soul scream it at your lover's soul with that much force!

Misconceptions
    The primary reason why so many people fear love magick is because there is great fear in our ability to hurt others with it. While I admire my fellow man's resolve not to hurt others, I am strongly against not nurturing a potential seed of love every chance one gets. One great misconception is that love magick forces someone to fall in love by manipulating their will. This is a common misconception that has made more than a few self-righteous magicians frown on other magicians for using love spells. Love magick purifies the harmony of love and allows it to flow freely. It has nothing to do with manipulating free will. It is merely a clearing of clutter within the soul of your lover, nothing more. This is nothing to fear and it certainly doesn't manipulate your lover's will.
    Another even sillier misconception is that love magick can create "false love" between two people who would otherwise not love each other. This misconception, as absurd as it is, is even held true by many experienced magicians. If I cast a spell for money, does that mean false money will be drawn to me? Do luck spells draw false luck to me? Of course not! There is no such thing as "false love!" Love is the result of a strong loving harmony of energy between two people and it is either there or is not there. You cannot have a fake energy flow between two people! It is true that love can result from a love spell that would otherwise not have been, but only in cases where the harmony was already there.
    I like comparing love magick to the Sandra Bullock movie Love Potion #9. In this movie, the main character, played by Tate Donovan, is told by a gypsy palm reader that he does very badly with women. To help him, she gives him a small sample of a special love potion of her making. This is Love Potion #8 and it represents the misconceptions and myths about love magick. He discovers that when #8 is taken, even in tiny amounts, the sound of the user's voice makes those of the opposite sex fall in love with the user. As an experiment, Tate and one of his colleagues, Sandra Bullock, each take samples of the potion and spend two weeks testing it on the public to see how effective it is at tampering with the emotions of others. They find it to be surprisingly effective. By the middle of the movie, Tate discovers that he has true feelings for Sandra, but she had since come under the mysterious charm of another man who had learned of the potion from Sandra's journal and began using it on her to win her heart. In desperation, Tate runs back to the gypsy who gives him Love Potion #9. She tells him that #9 does not create emotion. It purifies emotion and will counteract #8. However, it would only work if she were truly in love with him. This is the true reality of love magick. The movie is a true epic of myth vs. reality with regard to love magick.

Conclusion
    Though love magick is safer than most people think, there are ways of abusing it just like any other form of magick. If you are cheating on your lover and he/she is becoming suspicious, then casting a love spell would be quite inappropriate and you would suffer the consequences for your actions. Other than this, love is a natural emotion and there is nothing wrong with purifying it and basking in its warm feeling.
    There are other ways to demonstrate your love in an attempt to manipulate the harmony, but all can be nullified by doubt and fear. You can buy your lover flowers or candy as a demonstration of how much you care, but doubt may still plague her mind which would have no beneficial effect on the harmony. You can say "I love you" with all of the sincerity in your heart, but if your lover has doubt, then there is little you can say that will change that. However, love magick is not a mere demonstration of how much you care! It is the full force of your loving energy that will go straight to your lover's heart and can not be stopped by fear or doubt because their heart knows that your heart cannot lie! It is the ultimate "I love you" and the heart will never forsake the love for the fear of heartache!
