Moon Phases

    Since the early days of astronomy, man has been fascinated by the moon. Only when Neil Armstrong first set foot on it in the first lunar landing, did we first really get to know her. Centuries before, the moon was our first calendar. It cycled through its phases reliably once a month, giving early astronomers an idea of what day of the month it was.
    Since the early days of the Craft, Craft users planned the casting time of their spells around the ever changing moon phases. This represented when it was most appropriate to cast what types of spells. This is a tradition still used today. Contrary to popular belief, Craft users don't cast only on the full moon. There are spells that are most effective when cast during the new moon as well.
    The principle on which spells are cast by the moon's phase is very simple to understand and easy to plan for. Craft users acknowledge four primary phases in which we plan our rituals: full, waxing, waning, and new.
    The
New Moon is when the moon is entirely obscured by its own shadow. This is the time for spells that bring new beginnings and new experiences. To some, the new moon can also be used for rejuvenation, cleansing, and banishing negativity.
    The Waxing Moon follows the new moon as it grows in visibility back into a full moon. When the moon is waxing, this is the best time for spells that draw things to you. Money spells, romance, health and other such spells that draw something into your life should be done during this time.
    The Full Moon, naturally, is when the moon is at 100% visibility. Any spells that can be done during the waxing moon can be done during this time as well. The full, however, moon provides a little more power.
    The Waning Moon is when the moon has passed its full moon phase and is now shrinking back to a new moon. This is the time for spells that reduce or push something out of your life. Spells to rid yourself of negative forces, bad relationships, or anything you wish to be rid of should be done during this time.

    That's the basic principle of the lunar phases and how we work with them. Simple, isn't it? With this knowledge, you may find it useful to keep a lunar calendar of some kind, if you intend to cast spells.
