Demons

Intro
The hierarchy of the spirit world contains a vast array of different types of spiritual beings, each with their own nature, alignment, and personality. Some of which are beings of great divine wonder, wisdom, and power. Unfortunately, there are also spiritual beings of great horror and ferocity. The demonic hierarchy represents the dark side of spirituality. Though often possessing great power and strength, demons are chaotic and frightening creatures, possessing the purest essences of hate, fear, and despair. Demonic hauntings are the most dangerous and terrifying of any other type, with levels of chaos easily enough to drive one to the brink of suicide. If you are afraid of ghosts, demons would push you far beyond your worst nightmares.
Many of your organized faiths believe that every demon is but a servant of Satan, himself. Some believe that people and places that have demons have been damned by God. Many faiths believe that demons are fallen angels, just as Satan was. These are all common misconceptions highly influenced by hundreds of years of religious dogma. A person with no Satanic affiliation whatsoever and enough sorrow and despair can attract a demon despite their faith. Demons are attracted by powerful emotional energy of a dark nature. Once they are present, they let chaos reign and are difficult and dangerous to deal with.

What is a Demon?
Demons are spiritual entities which are drawn into our world, intentionally or not, by unfathomable measures of sorrow, guilt, fear, despair, and/or hate. Needless to say, only your most hopelessly lost humans have the emotional strength to summon a powerful demon. Such circumstances may be deep mourning for a departed loved one, deep anger for someone who wronged you or hurt you harshly, or unimaginable fear of a person or thing to which you are uncontrollably bound and exposed to. If these circumstances are constantly on your mind, causing you to be alone, and forcing your mental condition to decline, then you are in danger of attracting a demon which would be your undoing and potentially the undoing of anyone unfortunate enough to reside in your home after your departure.
In some reported cases, a person may mourn themselves to death and by attracting a demon, let his/her spirit be imprisoned by it. Simple human spirits being under the harsh control and imprisonment a demonic overseer within a haunted house is not unheard of. As a matter of fact, there was once a Discovery Channel special of a man who died in his house, leaving his wife to mourn his loss. She mourned so deeply with such powerful despair that she attracted a demon shortly before her death which took over the house and imprisoned the man and woman's spirit within the house for decades until it was later exorcised. If you feel yourself drowning in your own emotions in this way, you'd be best to seek professional help. If not for your health, for your spiritual well-being and that of others around you.
Once a demon is summoned, like any other spiritual entity, it becomes a free roaming mass, not like a mere ghost. Though they are unlikely to behave this way, demons are easily capable of following a fleeing victim far from the haunting ground. It is normally more productive to face them head-on, despite their frightening nature. This is one aspect that makes demonic hauntings dangerous.
Their behavior is not unlike that of a ghost. However, unlike ghosts, they are fully self-aware and know exactly what they are doing when it comes to terrorizing their victims. They can easily apply great measures of physical force in rapid succession, if necessary. They can throw objects rapidly, punch you, push you down stairs, move furniture, etc. They are very active and angry spirits, which can easily be felt by non-psychics when you enter an infested home or building. Reports indicate that demons have been known to walk through rooms in an invisible manner and make themselves known by walking through people. The sensation you feel is a sudden, icy chill that travels through your body from one side to the other in an almost nonchalant manner. They can show up in photographs and often appear as very clear white blurs or smears in random areas. Lastly, demons can easily appear on a physical level, but they rarely appear physically while manipulating physical objects. This takes a great deal of energy and most spiritual entities simply don't have it. Unfortunately, having a demon appear before you when you least expect it can give you a heart-stopping shock.

Getting Rid of a Demon
Just like any other spiritual entity, exposure to opposing emotional energy can drive it away. However, if great measures of negative energy was used to summon the demon, great measures of opposing energy will be needed to dispel it. This is where using multiple people in an exorcism proves most useful. You are more likely to have sufficient energy for the job if more then one person is present. Unfortunately, Christian exorcisms can only be performed on a person and not a house, therefore a more seasoned practitioner in the spiritual arts would be more suitable for the dangerous task of cleansing the house. Most people consider blessing the house to be the smartest move. For a mere ghost, this may be the case, but not for demons. To rid yourself of such a strong spiritual entity, you must use stronger spiritual power in return. Blessings are very quiet, solemn routines with no real force to back them up. A mere blessing is more likely to provoke the demon instead of exorcising it.
As free-roaming entities, demons are capable of following you anywhere you go, so running away from it often doesn't help. It is usually best to face them head-on without fear. This is very difficult as demons are experts in terror. You must understand the extent of a demon's power to influence the physical world. They are almost always weaker than any human you can name. Therefore, demonic possession is not a problem for an average healthy person. If you have sickly members of your family, they are at risk. Wearing your symbol of faith from around the neck will provide some protection. This is especially important for children under six years of age, as they tend to have less energy and less protection from outside influences. Burning certain types of incense like sage, myrrh, or frankincense will help keep demons at bay. Now that your defense is set, you're ready to learn how to deal with the demon.
Demons emit a powerful dark force around themselves. You can smite the demon by confronting its dark nature with your own powerful spirit. Demonstrating to the demon with all sincerity that you are not afraid and telling it that it is weaker than you actually makes the demon weaker, because it is now being opposed by your positive forces. It may attempt to retaliate in anger, but it will usually employ simple tricks like throwing objects or moving furniture in some attempt to frighten you and force you to let go of your courage. These are nothing to fear. In worst cases, a demon may even pick you up and heave you across the room, usually with little injury. This is where you know it is getting desparate and expending energy in a desparate attempt to make you lose focus. Just stand up and continue as if the demon did nothing at all. I like using powerful statements to speak with the demon. "Throwing objects like an angry child? This is the extent of your power! You are not stronger than me!" Say such phrases with total confidence and courage. The demon will grow weaker and eventually leave for good. Afterwards, seal the house with a cleansing or blessing to shield it from negative influences attempting to return. Most effective exorcisms and rituals of banishment use similar techniques to this one, so you can personalize the procedure a bit. That's all there is to it!

Demonic Usage in Magick
In the occult, demons are viewed as the "easy path" to great power. But like most easy paths, it is also the most risky and potentially dangerous. Some of your novice magicians may feel tempted to conjure a demon and use its power to tap the physical world because it would not require extensive work or talent. However, demons cannot be controlled by many experienced magicians, but less a novice. Many of your not so committed dabblers like drawing attention from others by claiming the ability to summon a demon. I consider this a claim of weakness, not strength or talent. Demonic magick sacrifices safety for easy power and only a weak and ignorant fool would attempt it. If a given magician were truly powerful, he or she would have better forms of magick of equal or better effectiveness and would not need a demon's help.
An author, whose name escapes me, once wrote that demonic usage in magick is like trying to beat a mouse to death with a rattle snake. It's very effective, but there is nothing to protect you. It is dangerous magick and should not be attempted by anyone who has had less than a few decades of experience in magick. On another note, many demonic summoning rituals require small sacrifices of your own blood. Many covens consider this unethical magick. In short, demons are a quick and easy way to gain great power, but are simply not worth what it takes to summon one. Leave it to foolish dabblers to discover this hard lesson on their own.
